Ingredients:
For the French Toast Base:
- 1 loaf French bread, sliced 1-inch thick
- 5 large eggs
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅔ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
For the Caramelized Topping:
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- Extra granulated sugar for caramelized topping
Instructions:
Prepare the Custard Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
Arrange & Soak the Bread:
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and arrange French bread slices in a single layer.
Pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring each slice is well-coated.
Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least 4 hours).
Make the Buttery Caramel Topping:
Melt butter in a saucepan, stir in brown sugar and maple syrup until smooth.
Drizzle over the soaked bread before baking.
Bake to Perfection:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the French toast until golden brown and puffed.
Crème Brûlée-Style Topping:
Sprinkle granulated sugar over the top and caramelize with a kitchen torch or under a broiler.
