How To Get Perfect Bang Bang Shrimp

Ingredients:

For the shrimp:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

For the Bang Bang sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to heat preference)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, soak the shrimp in buttermilk and set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Remove shrimp from the buttermilk, dredge in the flour mixture, and coat evenly.
  5. Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and rice vinegar until smooth.
  7. Toss the crispy shrimp in the Bang Bang sauce until fully coated.
  8. Serve immediately, garnished with chopped green onions.
