Italian Sausage & Peppers Pasta Bake

🇮🇹 Ingredients:
12 oz penne or rigatoni pasta
1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or hot), casings removed
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 small yellow onion, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups marinara sauce
½ cup heavy cream or whole milk
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan
Salt & black pepper to taste
Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
🍽 Directions:
Cook pasta:
Boil pasta in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Cook sausage and veggies:
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage, breaking it up as it cooks. Once browned, add bell peppers, onion, and garlic. Cook until veggies are tender, about 5–7 minutes.
Add sauces:
Stir in marinara, cream, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes to combine flavors.
Combine and assemble:
Add cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat. Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13″ baking dish. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan.
Bake:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 2–3 minutes to brown the top if desired.
Garnish and serve:
Let sit for 5 minutes, then sprinkle with fresh herbs and serve hot.
